DESCRIPTION:This meeting will be held on Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/98151593778\n\n \nSpecial Guest Presentation - Surtax IV\n\n \n\nPlan to join us for a special presentation regarding Surtax IV. We welcome Jonathan Lewis\, County Administrator\, and Steve Botelho\, Deputy County Administrator\, as our guest speakers at the upcoming Quarterly Membership Meeting. Surtax IV will be voted on in November of 2022.\n\n \n\nWhat is a Surtax? In addition to the state sales and use tax rate\, individual Florida counties may impose a sales surtax called discretionary sales surtax or local option county sales tax. Sales tax dealers must collect both discretionary sales surtax and the state sales tax from the purchaser at the time of sale\, and remit the taxes to the Florida Department of Revenue. The Department distributes the discretionary sales surtax to the counties where the surtax is levied. The counties use the funds to pay for local authorized projects.\n\n \n\nThis could include any capital project for the County\, School Board\, City of North Port\, City of Venice\, City of Sarasota\, and Town of Longboat Key. It could be a new school\, new City Police Station\, utility line expansion\, road resurfacing\, new sidewalks\, etc. \n\n \n\nThis will be an opportunity to discuss projects that the SK Chamber and community is interested in adding to that list of projects. Presentation is expected to be 10-15 minutes plus time for Q&A. Pre-registration is not required.
