In Memory of Rosalind Hyman, August 1936 – March 2024

Whether you knew her as Roz, Mom, or G.G., you loved her. Now she is hugging and laughing with the ones she missed and loved so dearly in the beauty above.

Rosalind Hyman - Honorary Mayor of Siesta Key Village

Roz leaves behind her beloved family that she knew no boundaries of love and acceptance with and an abundance of friends that filled her heart as an extension of her family.

She is survived by her daughters; Denise Hyman (Bill Powers) and Cheryl Hyman (Bill Hossman), her son, Ronald Hyman (Lisa Folsom Hyman), her granddaughter, Maria Powers and her great grandchildren, Makenzie, and Mason.

Roz worked as an accountant and property manager in the Siesta Key Village for over 35 years as well as the treasurer of the Siesta Key Merchants Association for over 30 years. She was verklempt when she was given the title of honorary mayor of Siesta Key Village for all her dedication. A true surprise that she always marveled and questioned, "how it was kept a secret" as nothing that had to do with the Village got past her keen eyes and ears!

Her love for the Kouvatsos family as an extension of her own was known to all. She could always be found at the Village Café at lunch time socializing and playing backgammon. Smiling when she won, which was often, and even when she lost because Tommy is a bad winner. She so enjoyed her time with everyone there. Her laughter filled the restaurant.

Roz so enjoyed helping with the many special events in the Village: Easter Egg Hunt, Siesta Fiesta, Siesta Key Fireworks for Fourth of July, Halloween Trick or Treat, and Light Up the Village Christmas event. Some of Roz’s happiest and proudest times were taking Maria at a young age to these events and then filling her heart again to be able to do it with Makenzie and Mason. But her heart was filled even greater by the thousands of children’s smiles she got to witness all of her years volunteering.

Roz was also known for always having a kind word, comment on Facebook, and sometimes sarcastic line, but mostly for never missing a holiday, birthday, anniversary, or any event that deserved a card in the mail with her famous $2 bill in it. Someone always got an extra nickel each year to bicker over who her favorite was. A game we all loved and will miss terribly. Cocoa Chanel #7 got the last nickel although Cheryl mentioned she got one Valentines Day, so I think Roz double dipped! Everyone looked forward to receiving their cards because it meant that Mom, GG, or Roz still thought of you with love and endearment. It was her trademark.

We take comfort that in her final moments, we heard her speak as she greeted her family and pets above watching a beautiful movie with her mother. She rejoins her beloved husband, Herbie, her mother, and father (Bea and Sam), her sisters (Dorothy (Tootsie) and Lillian) along with so many others she missed over the years. We know she is throwing the toys for her best buds, Pancake, Rothchild and Graham Cracker and they were there running up to her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roz Hyman Memorial Fund for the Siesta Key Fireworks Celebration.
